Colon Tumor

What is it?

Abnormal growth within the colon, usually malignant, is the most common type of cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and is found in the leading causes of cancer in the general population. It is associated with predisposing factors such as:
• Abundant fat and calorie diets
• Obesity
• Smoking
• Increased alcohol consumption
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease (SITC)
• Family Polyposis Syndrome

Symptom

• Recent constipation
• Recent diarrhea
• Blood in evacuation
• Pain in the abdomen

Diagnostic Studies

• Colonoscopy with biopsy
• TAC of abdomen

Treatment

Medical:
• Diet
• Analgesics and food supplements

Surgical:
• Resection of the tumor together with part of the affected colon as well as reconstruction of the colon (anastomosis)
