Esophageal Cancer

What is it?

It is an abnormal growth or tumor in the esophagus, which is the conduit that carries the food from our mouth to our stomach, there are two types or varieties of tumors and it usually occurs in people over 60 years old without ruling out their presence in the minor age. Are related or predisposing factors include:
• Smoking
• Excessive alcohol consumption
• Chronic malnutrition
• Hereditary or genetic factors
• Liver malfunction
• Barrett's esophagus

Symptom

• Difficulty swallowing food
• Pain in the chest
• Rejurgitations and Weakness
• Vomiting that can occur with blood

Diagnostic Studies

• Endoscopy with biopsy
• chest CT scan

Treatment

Medical:
• Diet
• Antacids
• Food supplements

Surgical:
• Resection of the tumor and part of the esophagus with reconstruction of the esophagus.
